Barbara Buchner

Barbara Buchner

Director, CPI Europe

BIO

Barbara Buchner is the head of CPI Europe, managing both the CPI Venice and the CPI Berlin offices. Her work focuses on international climate finance to address the question of whether it is adequate and productive. An additional topic of interest is the qualitative and quantitative analysis of market-based mechanisms and of other policy approaches to GHG mitigation; she is primarily concerned with the EU ETS. Previously Barbara served as a Senior Energy and Environment Analyst at the International Energy Agency (IEA). She joined the IEA in January 2007 to work on climate and energy policy issues in the Energy Efficiency and Environment Division. Before that, she was working as a Senior Researcher at the Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM), where she was involved in a number of activities related to FEEM’s Climate Change Policy and Modelling Unit in the field of environmental economics. She has also been a Visiting Scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) within its Joint Program on the Science and Policy of Global Change & Centre for Energy and Environmental Policy Research (CEEPR). Barbara serves on the Advisory Board of the Barilla Center for Food & Nutrition (BCFN). Until 2011 she was the Vice President of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists and served on the Mitigation Board of the Global Network for Climate Solutions (GNCS), which is hosted at the Earth Institute, Columbia University, coordinated by the Columbia Climate Center. Barbara holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Graz and a Masters Degree in Economics within the Economics/Environmental Sciences Joint Program at the University of Graz and University of Technology of Graz.
