On the occasion of EBTKE (New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation) Connex 2018, the Royal Danish Embassy in collaboration with Danish Energy Agency, hosted a discussion titled Energy Efficiency Training in Buildings. Ery Wijaya, CPI Indonesia’s Senior Analyst, was one of the panelists at the session on “Optimizing Building Code Implementation in Existing and New Buildings in Indonesia: Technical and Financial Perspective”.

Ery presented Energy Savings Insurance (ESI) as one of the endorsed instruments by The Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance (The Lab) to stimulate investments in energy efficiency and boost investors’ confidence by reallocating risks more effectively among project stakeholders. ESI provides an insurance for projected energy savings in energy efficiency projects. It will pay out if the projected value of energy savings is not met. The Lab’s analysis shows that the instrument can absorb up to 80% of the underperformance risk. To boost the implementation of energy efficiency projects in Indonesia, there is a potential of ESI replication in Indonesia to overcome investors’ weak confidence in the financial viability of energy efficiency investments.
