Blended finance has emerged as the critical strategy in addressing the funding challenges for both climate action and biodiversity restoration, especially highlighted at the COPs. Directing funding at unprecedented amounts at scale and speeds never seen before is the only way to tackle the climate and nature crisis. Mobilization of blended finance, combining public and private sector funds, is crucial, especially for the least developed countries to grow on a sustainable pathway, where access to funding has been lacking for decades as these countries trail behind and yet are most hit by the brunt of the twin crises.

This webinar will explore how COP29 will focus on finance as governments are to set a new post-2025 finance goal to fund the 1) loss & damage fund 2) scale climate finance to reach the 30% global renewables targets 3) climate and nature technology transfer. We will also look at how private sector involvement is key to bringing innovation and efficiency gains to projects, making them more cost-effective and scalable.

Speakers will include:

  • Patrick Nussbaumer, Strategic Partnerships Director – UBS Optimus Foundation
  • Daniela Savoia, EM Debt Fund Manager – Edmond de Rothschild
  • Andrey Shlyakhtenko, Lead of Blended Finance Operations, Blended Finance and Corporate Strategy Department – International Finance Corporation
  • Vikram Widge, Senior Advisor – Climate Policy Initiative
