ABOUT Green and Sustainable Finance Workstream

CPI’s Green and Sustainable Finance work stream focuses on supporting the financial sector during India’s transition to a low-carbon economy. The work provides information, support, and guidance to the financial sector to manage climate-related financial risks, identify avenues to increase green and sustainable finance, and keep pace with this ever-evolving space.

The objective of CPI’s Green and Sustainable Finance work stream in India is to support the financial sector through research, training, and convening. Under this program, CPI actively engages with policy makers at a regional level, civil society, academic institutions, and financial institutions, including banks, NBFCs, AIFIs, and insurance firms.

POSITION SUMMARY

The manager will be part of India’s Green and Sustainable Finance team and responsible for team management, client management, and project delivery. The work expected is along three lines: a) Program and Project management, b) Analytical work, and c) Team management

Program and Project Management:

  • Coordinate a specified technical work program or workstream, including oversight of all projects falling within the program.
  • Develop, lead, implement, and support projects and initiatives within the dedicated program area.
  • Carry out research and analytical work, guide analysts working in his/her area, and coordinate communications.
  • Provide quality assurance to CPI outputs, ensuring deliverables meet CPI’s high-quality standards and analysis is robust.
  • Oversee budgets and resources for projects within the assigned work program and ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Support senior management.
  • Communicate and collaborate with CPI staff working around the globe and engage with the Communications team to disseminate CPI research and analysis.

Analytical: 

  • Lead the development of client-targeted, new, and existing analytical approaches, initiatives, projects, and products.
  • Perform rigorous quantitative evaluation of national and international climate finance mechanisms and climate and energy policies, climate risk management, and interactions between public and private sector – corporate, banking, and financial services institutions and international financial institutions.
  • Lead the production and completion of high-quality CPI products, including full reports, executive summaries, blogs, and presentations, working closely with the Communications team.
  • Business development and stakeholder relationships.
  • Contribute to annual business planning and fundraising strategy.
  • Identify and pursue funding and business development opportunities for CPI, advising and reporting to the India Director of Climate Finance.
  • Maintain excellent relations with key stakeholders and (potential) clients, as agreed with, and report to the India Director of Climate Finance.
  • Engage clients and advise policymakers and investors on the implications of research findings, including presenting at high-level events.

 Team Management: 

  • Manage a team of analysts.
  • Guide junior staff on professional work practices and lead by example, building a strong sense of commitment and motivation in the team.
  • Work with senior management to support the personal development of junior staff through mentorship, project opportunities, and training.
  • Support senior management in recruitment efforts as required.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree required in economics, finance, international/sustainable development, public policy, management, or another relevant field. Candidates without such a qualification will only be considered if significant relevant work experience can be demonstrated.
  • Work Experience of at least 8 to 10 years is mandatory.
  • Experience in financial services, management consulting, international non-profit, or development financial institutions is mandatory.
  • Background in the Financial sector – Banking/capital markets/insurance is mandatory
  • Understanding of Banking or capital markets or insurance regulations is mandatory
  • Sound understanding of energy transition, knowledge of public finance in the Indian context preferred.
  • Experience in undertaking stakeholder consultations with public and private sector entities.
  • Microsoft Office skills

TITLE & LOCATION

Manager, Green, and Sustainable Finance is a full-time position in our India office in New Delhi. CPI has adopted a flexible working policy whereby staff can mix working remotely with regular (weekly) days in the office (particularly helpful for interacting with the wider CPI team, specific team meetings, and collaboration).

CPI offers a competitive salary and benefits package. Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and in line with CPI’s compensation structure.
