On 6 October 2016, Vivek Sen and Labanya Jena Prakash attended the International Energy Conference in Vadodara, India, at the invitation of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India. For this conference and at the request of MNRE, CPI created and provided a compendium of innovative financial solutions to drive investment to renewable energy in the nations that comprise the International Solar Alliance.

This compendium was released by Mr. Piyush Goyal, Indian Minister of State in charge of Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy and Mines, and Mr. Vijay Rupani, Chief Minister, Gujarat State, in the presence of Ministers of Power from other countries. The compendium includes a foreword from Mr. Piyush Goyal, and highlights the cutting-edge instruments under development at the India Innovation Lab for Green Finance, Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance, and the Fire Awards. It was made available to all the dignitaries and delegates at the International Energy Conference.

The International Energy Conference was jointly organized by MNRE and the Government of Gujarat, as part of the Switch Global Expo. The conference brought together more than 500 stakeholders from around the world – energy and renewable energy ministers from different nations, as well as key policymakers and industry stakeholders – to share perspectives on scaling up renewable energy deployment and collaborative action on climate change. The conference facilitated discussion on the roadmap for transitioning from fossil fuels to clean energy, and on the measures being adopted by countries to accelerate renewable energy deployment specifically for the countries that are part of International Solar Alliance.

During the valedictory session, CPI’s work was emphasized upon by Mr. Santosh Vaidya, Joint Secretary of MNRE. While accentuating the requirement of low cost financing for renewable energy, the Joint Secretary commended the innovative financing solutions incubated at CPI that can drive capital into the renewable energy sector and also highlighted the implementation potential of these financial solutions in various parts of the world.
