1 August, New Delhi, India: Climate Policy Initiative (CPI) is pleased to announce the promotion of Vivek Sen as its new India Director. Vivek brings a wealth of experience and expertise in clean energy, policy, and finance to the role. His appointment will support CPI’s mission to promote sustainable and inclusive economic growth through effective climate policy and finance solutions.
Vivek has been instrumental in setting up and expanding several CPI programs and workstreams, including the Center for Sustainable Finance, its just transition workstream, and sector-specific low-carbon transition work for heavy industry, transportation, and agriculture. These efforts have significantly contributed to the body of knowledge that is informing India’s climate policy and sustainable finance progress. Vivek also helped establish and guide CPI’s growing body of work in India to mobilize long-term equity and debt financing for sectors and enterprises that typically face challenges in securing funding, including the India PURE Finance Facility, the India Clean Energy Finance Facility, and the India chapter of the Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance.
Vivek has 18 years of experience in policy, energy, and finance. He is highly experienced in working with central and state governments, regulators, and financial institutions. He has worked on several initiatives with India’s Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Power, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, and NITI Aayog. He has delivered projects funded by or in cooperation with several multi and bilateral agencies and numerous other philanthropic, academic, research, and other civil society organizations working on climate change and sustainable development.
“We are thrilled to welcome Vivek Sen as our new India Director,” said Dr. Barbara Buchner, Global Managing Director of Climate Policy Initiative. “His extensive experience and deep understanding of climate finance and policy, both domestic and internationally, as well as his institutional knowledge of CPI, make him the ideal leader to drive our initiatives in India. We are confident that CPI will continue to make significant strides in supporting India’s sustainable development and climate goals under his leadership.”
Prior to CPI, Vivek worked at Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, Power Exchange India Limited, and has been a Consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers Private Limited, among others.
Vivek will have a critical role in leading CPI’s work as India intensifies its efforts to tackle climate change and support its ambitious Net Zero Targets by 2070. His leadership and vision will be invaluable in guiding CPI’s work and fostering stakeholder collaboration to achieve meaningful and lasting impacts.
