SAN FRANCISCO – Climate Policy Initiative (CPI) has consolidated its Venice and Berlin offices into a single European program, and has named Dr. Barbara Buchner director of CPI Europe. Dr. Buchner, who was formerly director of CPI Venice, will lead CPI’s integrated work program in Europe with the support of associate directors in CPI Venice and CPI Berlin.

“We feel very privileged to have Barbara at the helm in Europe, where innovative policies are being implemented to support and finance low-carbon growth. Under her leadership, our coordinated European work program will help us produce analysis on what really works in energy and climate actions that policymakers tell us is a critical and unmet need,” said Thomas Heller, executive director of CPI.

Dr. Karsten Neuhoff, who helped start CPI’s Berlin office and led it for two years, has left CPI but continues to work on climate policy issues at DIW. CPI plans to collaborate with Dr. Neuhoff and other experts in DIW and the wider policy community in Berlin to deliver analysis that will support the efforts in Germany and Europe to transition to a low-carbon economy. “We thank Karsten for his dedication and support these past two years. With his leadership, CPI Berlin has built the foundation for our analytical work and for strong relationships with stakeholders in Berlin and Europe. We look forward to working with him on future projects and wish him the best in his future endeavors,” said Heller.
