London, June 12, 2024 – Today, the Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance (the Lab)—which has helped mobilize more than USD 4 billion for climate action—marks its 10th anniversary by announcing its first-ever Lab Summit and launching a special blog series.

Established in 2014 to address finance barriers in emerging markets and developing economies, the Lab has emerged as a global leader in identifying, developing, and launching investment solutions that catalyze finance for a resilient, net-zero transition.

“Over the past ten years, the Lab has played a pivotal role in helping mobilize over USD 4 billion in investment by supporting 68 instruments across critical climate and development action sectors. Our 10th anniversary is an opportunity to share the valuable lessons learned and help accelerate and replicate business models that unlock private finance in emerging markets,” said Dr. Barbara Buchner, Climate Policy Initiative’s Global Managing Director.

To commemorate this significant milestone, the Lab will publish a special ten-part blog series that shares valuable insights and lessons learned over the past decade. This series will explore practical knowledge gained from accelerating climate finance solutions in emerging markets, aiming to educate and inspire a diverse audience.

The series will cover a wide range of topics—from overcoming persistent risks and investment challenges to effectively utilizing concessional capital—and feature case studies to illustrate lessons and themes. The first blog will be published on July 16, and the series will culminate in a comprehensive release during the 2024 New York Climate Week and the Lab Endorsement Meeting.

In addition to the blog series, the Lab is hosting its first-ever Summit to celebrate 10 years on September 26, 2024, during New York Climate Week. This invite-only event will bring together investors, fund managers, climate finance innovators, and key stakeholders to explore the future of private finance in emerging markets. The summit will feature interactive roundtables, high-level panels, and targeted networking opportunities to foster critical discussions on the challenges that limit capital flow to climate mitigation and adaptation initiatives in emerging markets.

The summit will also serve as a platform to identify a renewed strategic direction for the Lab as it enters its second decade. On the same day, Lab members will convene to endorse the ten innovative ideas currently being developed during the Lab’s 10th annual cycle.

“As COP28 highlighted the urgent need to unlock trillions for climate action, the Lab’s 10th-anniversary celebrations provide a timely opportunity to reflect on our journey. Looking ahead, the Lab aims to continue driving transformative solutions and forging impactful partnerships to mobilize billions more in sustainable investments across emerging markets,” said Ben Broché, Climate Policy Initiative’s Associate Director, who leads the Lab’s efforts.
