Joe Leavenworth Bakali is a Senior Program Associate and Catalytic Climate Finance Facility Lead at CPI, based in San Francisco. Joe is responsible for overall program management and coordination of CPI’s role as co-manager of the Facility, spanning strategy, investment analysis, implementation of acceleration support, fundraising, and stakeholder management.

Prior to joining CPI, Joe managed a portfolio of global blended finance projects for the USAID INVEST initiative. He began his career in private investment roles covering both developed and emerging markets, initially at a US-based institutional investment firm and then at an impact venture capital fund making early-stage investments across East Africa and India. Prior to joining INVEST, he worked in DAI Global’s Sustainable Business Group advising multinational corporations and development finance institutions on supply chain development and innovative finance across emerging markets.

Joe holds a MSc in International Political Economy with Distinction from the London School of Economics and a BA in International Politics and Economics from Middlebury College.
