Jharkhand’s energy transition presents a significant opportunity to reshape the state’s employment landscape by creating a substantial number of green jobs across clean power, clean mobility, and green molecules sectors. However, achieving this requires substantial private-sector investment.

This report introduces two scenarios—Ambitious Policy Scenario (APS) and Accelerated Green Transition Scenario (AGTS)—developed by Climate Policy Initiative (CPI) to estimate green job creation in Jharkhand by 2030. The APS envisions ambitious targets for renewable energy, green manufacturing, and electric vehicle adoption, supported by strong policies and investment. Under this scenario, Jharkhand could generate 81,332 direct and 3,11,410 indirect green jobs by 2030.

The AGTS takes a more aggressive approach, aiming for rapid investment and policy implementation in green sectors. This scenario projects the creation of 1,37,172 direct and 4,92,924 indirect green jobs by 2030, with further job growth driven by increased consumer spending.

Both scenarios highlight the importance of strategic policies and investments to maximize green job creation. The report recommends promoting green industries, fostering green skills development, and encouraging investment in biofuels, green hydrogen, and electric vehicle manufacturing. Establishing Green Skills Training Centers and fostering industry-academia partnerships will be critical to ensuring a skilled workforce ready for the demands of the green economy. Reskilling and upskilling initiatives will also help workers transition to new opportunities in these emerging sectors.
